Why is this important?
The diversity and balance of industry sectors has a significant
impact on the overall economic health of a
region.
What is the measure?
The number of jobs in the different sectors and the larger employers
in the county offer an overall view of business/industry diversity
in the county.
How are we doing?
Jobs in manufacturing continue to fall, with the first signs of
the construction industry decline showing by the end of 2007.
Sonora Regional Medical Center and the Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk
Indians are key employers exhibiting steady increases during the
last two years. The former is a result of the closure of many services
at Tuolumne General Hospital, and the latter, a continued expansion
of the local tribe's casino and entertainment facility.
No significant changes occurred in other sectors, although it is
anticipated that the housing decline and related jobs could have
a detrimental effect on other areas of the local economy in the immediate
future.
