Why is this important?
Recreation strengthens community awareness, enhances economic development,
and promotes health and wellness. Existing park and recreation facilities
provide year around programming for visitors and residents. Recreation
facilities offer families and friends a place to enjoy their leisure
time.
What is the measure?
The accompanying data identifies existing parks and recreation
facilities in Tuolumne County. Recreation facility indicators were
assessed in 2002 and identified in the County of Tuolumne’s
Recreation Master Plan. The plan was a required element of the 1996
Tuolumne County General Plan which was adopted by the County Board
of Supervisors. Measurements identified in this document were confirmed
by "field count" in 2004, and 2008.
How are we doing?
Tuolumne County’s general plan was adopted in 1996. In that
document, the Board of Supervisors recognized the value of parks
and recreational facilities, and committed to improve and expand
existing facilities. To meet that goal, recreation facilities are
to be available, accessible, and maintained to current health and
safety standards.
Since 2005, changes in availability, accessibility and maintenance
have been minimal to existing park and recreation facilities. One
skate park and 4 tennis courts were added.
